MS Dhoni become first Indian cricketer to smash 3 sixes 1st 3 ball in IPL innings
MS Dhoni pulled off three back-to-back sixes in the final over against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni surely loves to bat at the Wankhede Stadium as taking a stroll in the past would reveal many instances where Dhoni has taken the bowlers to the cleaners, including the notable World Cup 2011 final. Something similar came up in the Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash as Dhoni pulled off a hat-trick of sixes against MI skipper Hardik Pandya in the final over of CSK’s innings.
It was Daryl Mitchell and Shivam Dube in the middle who were trying to get CSK above 200 but Mitchell departed off the second delivery. 42-year-old Dhoni walked out to bat as the fans in the stands went bonkers cheering for the former CSK skipper. He acknowledged the cheers gratefully with a first-ball six to Pandya as the crowd erupted. It was a slower delivery around off which Dhoni smoked over long-off
Dhoni completes 5000 runs for CSK
MS Dhoni was four runs short of 5000 runs for CSK ahead of the MI vs CSK clash and his quickfire 20-run knock took his tally above 5000. Dhoni batted at a strike rate of 500 against MI as CSK fans witnessed their Thala taking charge in the final moments and delivering what was required in the earlier overs. He remained unbeaten with Shivam Dube (66 off 38 balls) on the other end, helping CSK post a challenging target of 207 runs for arch-rivals MI.
